Kelly L. Coffman, MD, MPH

​Dr. Kelly Coffman is an adult psychiatrist with specialized training in reproductive psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. Originally from Texas, she first came to Atlanta to complete her undergraduate degree at Emory University. She then earned her medical degree and a Master’s in Public Health (with a concentration in Health Systems Management) from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She also completed her psychiatry residency at Tulane University and served as chief resident during her final year of training. Dr. Coffman then returned to Atlanta to complete a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Emory University. After completing her training, she joined the psychiatry faculty at Emory University, where she worked until joining AAFPC.

Dr. Coffman is particularly passionate about treating women who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or postpartum, and helping them determine the optimum treatment plan with the safety of both mom and baby in mind. She also frequently works with women who are undergoing assisted reproductive and/or infertility treatment.

Dr. Coffman’s forensic psychiatry practice includes conducting evaluations for disability, fitness for duty, applications for asylum, competency to stand trial, and criminal responsibility. She frequently serves as a consultant and as an expert witness in both criminal and civil cases. She is an adjunct faculty member of Emory University and continues to teach and supervise the Emory forensic psychiatry fellows. 

Dr. Coffman is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association, where she serves on the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Coffman lives in Roswell, Georgia, with her husband, their daughter, and their 2 rescued dogs, Bourbon and Royal. A New Orleans girl at heart, she enjoys cooking, eating, and listening to jazz music. Her “happy place” is sitting on the beach getting lost in a good book.
