Susan S. Kirsch, M.D.

    Dr. Susan Kirsch went into psychiatry because she enjoys helping people find stability, peace and happiness. She works collaboratively with children, adolescents, adults and families to help foster individual growth, improve communication, and enhance each person’s well-being. Dr. Kirsch is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Board-Eligible for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association.

     After graduating with honors from Union College in New York, with majors in both psychology and biology, she went on to receive her medical doctorate from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York. She graduated from medical school with Distinction in Research and then completed her internship and started her residency at the Payne Whitney Institute at Cornell University Medical Center in New York. She finished her Psychiatry Residency and went on to a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Emory University. She was appointed Chief Resident during her final year at Emory University and was appointed to be the representative from Emory University to the Georgia Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

    Dr. Kirsch has had the opportunity to work with adults, children, and adolescents experiencing a wide range of challenges including autism, conversion disorder, anxiety, depression, ADHD, as well as individuals with psychotic and bipolar disorders. During her training at Emory, she has worked at Laurel Heights Hospital, Chris 180, Dekalb Community Service Board, Emory Autism Center, Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Egelston and Scottish Rite Hospitals), ViewPoint Health Crisis Stabilization Unit, Ridgeview Institute, Georgia Regional Hospital, Grady Hospital and Emory University Hospital. She competed an elective training in Family Therapy, and enjoys working with parents, families and couples. Additionally, Dr. Kirsch has had training in couple’s therapy, short term psychodynamic therapy, and has worked extensively in CBT, facilitated DBT programs, and has completed a cross residency Ethics Program at Emory. Dr. Kirsch utilizes many different types of therapy when appropriate to help individuals and families.

    Born in New York, Dr. Kirsch has lived in Atlanta for the past twenty years with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
